Hi, I'm Nina!

I love diving into products, exploring them inside and out, and turning my findings into clear, usable documentation.

Neopian's Guide to Dress to Impress

I wrote a user guide for the Neopets fansite Dress to Impress, a web application that lets you dress up your Neopet and organize lists of wearables you own or want.Tools: Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Acrobat

Nightshade and Glaze:
A Counterattack to Generative AI

I wrote a white paper about the use of Nightshade and Glaze on images to avoid being used for training generative artificial intelligence. As an artist, protecting creatives' work is something I'm deeply concerned with and wanted to research on this.Tools: Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat

RecipeBox Help Centre

My groupmates and I designed and implemented a help center prototype for RecipeBox, a recipe organizer app.
We wrote tasks for the app's features using technical writing best practices and implemented a simple web prototype.
Tools: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Figma, Visual Studio Code

About me

I'm Nina Sanchez! I was born and raised in Quezon City, Philippines and completed an undergraduate degree in Computer Science.Working in a start-up company right after graduation, I've had to wear many hats – product manager, UX designer, documentation writer, support, and many more!
There, I found the thrill of learning the ins and outs of products, the systems behind them, and finding ways to use them to their full potential. There, I discovered the importance of up-to-date documentation, the joy of sharing release notes with colleagues, and the wonder of collaborating with clients to plan new features for our products.
Because of this experience, I decided to pursue a Technical Communication graduate certificate in Seneca Polytechnic. I want to cultivate my interest in documentation – internal docs, user guides, API docs, and so on!Outside of studies and work, I have a weird array of hobbies. I enjoy digital art, crocheting, video games, mechanical keyboards, and food.

Neopian's Guide to Dress to Impress

This user guide on Dress to Impress was a major project in my first semester. We were tasked to make a user guide for an open-source application with no existing support guides.Tools: Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe AcrobatWhy I chose this topic

  • Despite its simple appearance, it has very robust features.

  • As a long-time user, I have experience with the features and know the user flows.

  • There was no risk of duplicating existing docs as the developer didn't have time to make any.

Learnings

  • Since I was too eager to make a comprehensive document, I got overwhelmed with the content I needed to write. I realized that making a clear and concise document is more important than making a complete one.

  • I approached the user guide by covering basics and building up to the main feature, when I could've started with what the user wants to see first.

Nightshade and Glaze: A Counterattack to Generative AI

This white paper on Nightshade and Glaze was a major project in my first semester at Seneca Polytechnic. We were tasked to research on an emerging technology and write a white paper about it.Tools: Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe AcrobatWhy I chose this topic

  • Generative AI has been on the rise in the past few years, which makes it a timely topic.

  • I don't have a lot of experience with artificial intelligence, so I wanted to try understanding it.

Learnings

  • While I have a background in computer science, it wasn't sufficient to understand learning models and machine learning. It was hard to understand and translate the articles and research papers into plain language.

  • I should have tried implementing and using generative AI to learn about it, rather than just reading.

  • Generative AI has been on the rise in the past few years, which makes it a timely topic.

Learnings

  • While I have a background in computer science, it wasn't sufficient to understand learning models and machine learning. It was hard to understand and translate the articles and research papers into plain language.

  • I already had a stance regarding generative AI, so it was difficult to remain neutral. I need to distance myself from personal feelings when conducting research.
